Work-related injuries can occur at a wide variety of locations: for example, Inside the company offices, during a company picnic in the park or at a construction job site.
If your injury relates to the kind of work you do, you should file a claim with your workers’ compensation carrier. This is when you will come in contact with an MPN. What is this?
About MPN
Medical Provider Networks (MPN) has been operating in California since 2005. Approved by the California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC), these networks consist of medical and healthcare providers who treat workers with on-the-job injuries. Each MPN includes doctors with general medical expertise as well as those who specialize in various work-related injuries and illnesses.
Next steps
If you sustain a work-related injury, your first step is to inform your employer, which will begin the process of applying for workers’ compensation benefits. Under DWC guidelines, you will have a choice of MPN providers after your first visit to a doctor. The MPN must also provide you with the opportunity to seek second or third opinions if you so choose.
Benefits to expect
Your employer should provide you with a claim form to submit for workers’ compensation benefits. You can expect coverage for your medical care plus either temporary or permanent disability benefits to compensate for any lost wages. Coverage also extends to education or retraining costs if needed. Remember that you can choose a specialist or general practitioner for treatment through the MSN associated with your employer’s workers’ compensation insurer.
