A California construction site sent most workers home recently after a worker was killed in a work-related accident at the location. According to reports, the man worked for a contracted company that was involved with construction at the site.
The man had come to the site to pick up a large piece of construction equipment known as a cherry picker. Reports indicate that he was operating the equipment and attempting to load it onto another vehicle when the accident occurred. Statements from the workers and company indicate that the man somehow became lodged between the equipment and a piece of concrete or a concrete structure at the site.
The man was reportedly crushed between the two objects. Sources say he died on the scene. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating the incident.
Although this accident occurred in a workplace environment, it is also something that can happen to anyone who works with large machinery. Contact with machines or objects, which often comes in the form of being caught in or between those objects, is a top reason for injuries in construction, industrial and manufacturing workplaces.
